In this clip, Tavis Smiley started off speaking about Time magazine naming him one of the most influential people in the world in 2019, and he explained that such honors push him further in the direction of who you already are. Tavis added that if you’re arrogant before getting prestigious honors, you’ll continue to be arrogant, but Tavis stated that “before honor becomes humility.” When asked about his friendship with Cornel West, who has gotten backlash over his criticism of former President Obama. This led to Tavis reacting to Shawn Prez asking about Steve Harvey criticizing him, and he admits that “it hurts” when people push back against you. Tavis then explained that “Steve had his facts wrong” while speaking about him, and he went on to explain that name calling is necessary.
