In this clip, Shaun Attwood described his time in a maximum security prison in the state of Arizona. He detailed the inhumane living conditions and how inmates were exposed to venomous spiders and other critters. Shaun discussed the racial politics that are present within the prison and how he almost got reprimanded by members of the Aryan Brotherhood for teaching a class helping Mexican inmates write home to their families. Later, Shaun recounted his trans friend "Shera" and what those who make the transition are subjected to while behind prison walls.
He continued by speaking about some of the high-profile inmates he forged relationships with while in prison, specifically, a mafia hitman named Two Tonys. Shaun recounted how after an incident with a cellmate, another associate of his introduced him to Two Tonys in hopes of getting Shaun protected. Fast forward, Two Tonys and Shaun cultivated a friendship that culminated in Shaun being asked to write Two Tonys’ life story.
Attwood spoke further about some of the characters he met in prison and the seemingly unreal situations they found themselves in. Shaun recounted meeting an inmate named T-Bone, who would eventually unintentionally avenge Shaun, who was beaten up by an inmate named Ken. He also explained how much prison politics can be likened to high school, with the only difference being the deadly consequences that hover over the heads of inmates at all times.
