The harsh reality of rappers getting shot multiple times during their careers is a recurring theme that has remained consistent for many decades. A few notable examples include the late Tupac Shakur getting shot five times back in 1994 while in Manhattan (New York) and 50 Cent getting shot nine times back in 2000 while in Queens (New York). Lil Tjay joined the list of emcees to survive a near-fatal gun incident when he was shot seven times back in June while in Edgewater (New Jersey). After several weeks of speculation that the rapper suffered severe brain damage and/or a severed spine, the 21-year-old broke his silence for the first time since being shot to ensure his supporters that he's functional, his body is improving, and that his promising music career will continue.

“Seven shots, it was tough, y’know?,” Lil Tjay said to his followers on Instagram. “Most people don’t survive it, but I’m here. Here for a reason...New music coming soon. We’re gonna come back stronger than ever...I just wanna say thanks for the love, thanks for the support...I’ve been at the DMs, the comments, and everything else and I feel love.”

After being shot multiple times, Lil Tjay was rushed to the hospital for surgery. Shortly thereafter, he was listed in critical condition. Local authorities have since arrested Mohamed Konate for the incident on charges of armed robbery, attempted murder, and more.
