According to reports, Salt Lake City's Sneaker Con ended on a somber note after a shooting outside the downtown area event left one person dead.
Local Fox affiliate Fox 13 reports that the victim was shot and killed around 3:20 PM outside the Salt Palace Convention Center. A physical altercation broke out between the victim and a few other men just before shots rang out.
The victim was wounded and taken to the hospital in critical condition. Soon after police say he was pronounced dead.
In response to the shooting, Sneaker Con issued the following statement:
“Authorities informed us that the incident related to an altercation outside of the Sneaker Con event arising from a three-shell Monte game, a coordinated scam taking place throughout the United States, [...] The altercation was not affiliated with our Sneaker Con event, nor did the suspected three-shell Monte orchestrators attend our event.”
