Coco Gauff recently played in Round 4 of the 2022 U.S. Open this past Sunday. The young player ended up gaining a win over Zhang Shuai. Following her match, the player made a gesture that mirrored that the competition was done. However, when answering questions from the press about her gestures, Gauff said, “That was a City Girls’ ‘period.’ It’s a City Girls summer. Period. That’s what it is. JT, Yung Miami, you don’t know? I got my long nails, it’s supposed to be like that. It’s feeding off the crowd.”
Via Twitter, Gauff responded to a fan who mentioned the U.S. Open and explained with a GIF what the tennis player was doing. Gauff responded by saying, “lol you’re right… it wasn’t meant to come off any other way. I had a city girls song stuck in my head the whole match.
