On Thursday morning in Miami-Dade County (Florida), two 12-year-old boys stood near a bus stop, waiting for the school bus to arrive, when a 16-year-old gunman approached them on the sidewalk and demanded that they hand over their cellphones. The two 12-year-olds declined, so the gunman immediately opened fire, sending both of his victims to the ground. The shooting took place minutes before 8 am on Northwest 109th Street and 10th Avenue. After the gunshots were fired, the shooter fled the scene while his victims lay on the ground in agony.

“I saw a kid shot in the leg,” said a local resident Ricrido Gaspard who was close enough to the incident to hear the shots fired. “He said, ‘I’m so in pain. I can’t hold it no more."

The boys were attended to by the members of the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, and shortly thereafter, they were transported to a local hospital, where they were listed in stable condition.

As for the shooter, he was eventually tracked down by local authorities, after they set up a perimeter in the neighborhood.  The 16-year-old reportedly made his way through several backyard yard areas before hiding in the shed of a duplex. According to reports, he had two guns on him at the time of his arrest. Because all parties involved are minors, none of their names will be released to the public.
