Rapper Wakko the Kidd has reportedly claimed that he was shot in the North Hollywood section of Los Angeles over what he says is a response to him flaunting money and jewelry on social media.

“It’s a popular thing in hip-hop and pop culture to show off wealth and new clothes and jewelry and nice cars,” he said in a phone interview with the LA Times Monday. “It’s all part of it; it’s glitz and glamour.”

However, he said after posting a video about an "818" chain (area code representing "the Valley" in Los Angeles County) which cost roughly $80,000, he became a target. According to the LA Times:

In the Sept. 1 attack, the rapper said, at least two masked men walked out of a car parked three houses down from his home. He believes the attackers did not follow him home but were waiting for him to pull into his driveway. When he and his audio engineer opened the door to get out of their car, he said, they were suddenly shot at.

“I think they were scared or something, because if their attempt was to rob me they could have easily gotten what they wanted by not shooting,” Wakko recalled. He said he was struck in the back while attempting to duck.

“I had like 15K on me in cash that they didn’t go through in my pockets and they didn’t try to go in my car,” Wakko the Kidd said. “I’m not a robber, but I have common sense enough to think that once 26 bullets go off, it’s a botched robbery.”
