According to reports, former director of Mississippi’s Department of Human Services, John Davis has pleaded guilty to federal charges in connection to the Brett Favre welfare fraud scandal.
Davis, 54, accepted a plea deal that will require him to testify against those involved in the case which could include the Hall of Fame quarterback. He is accused of misdirecting millions of dollars in federal welfare funds toward multiple projects including $5 million for the construction of a new volleyball facility at Favre's alma mater.
While Favre's lawyer said his client had no idea that the funds were siphoned from the state's welfare fund, a series of text messages suggest differently.
Davis pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds, and one count of theft concerning programs receiving federal funds. He now faces up to 15 years in prison.
