Previously, it was reported that former Mississippi Department of Human Resources director John Davis pleaded guilty to federal charges related to the Brett Favre welfare fraud scandal. Now, it has been noted that Favre reportedly received $1 million in federal welfare money for talks he never gave.
The money given to Favre was intended to help some of the poorest people in the nation, and text messages surfaced between Favre and the Mississippi Community Education Center’s executive director Nancy New in relation to the funds. In 2017, Favre reportedly texted New, saying, “If you were to pay me, is there anyway the media can find out where it came from and how much?”
In May 2022, Favre was named in a suit along with three former pro wrestlers and several businesses. The civil lawsuit was brought forth by Mississippi DHS to recover millions of dollars in misspent welfare money. DHS claims the defendants spent over $20 million from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families anti-poverty program.
