Update 09/26/2022 11:42am:

Previously, it was reported that Brett Favre was sidelined from his ESPN show amid a Mississippi welfare scandal. Now, court documents claim Favre reportedly wanted more money for a football facility.

Text messages that surfaced say the former football player reached out to ex-Mississippi governor Phil Bryant to ask if he could finance an indoor practice facility at his alma mater. News of this came from Bryant’s attorney and after allegations of Favre taking $5 million for a volleyball arena.

The legal team for Bryant alleged that Favre “continued to press for state funds” and asked for up to $2 million for projects. Since then, Favre has been named in a lawsuit filed by the state of Mississippi over the misspent welfare money. Stay tuned for more updates.

Previously, it was reported that former Mississippi Department of Human Resources director John Davis pleaded guilty to federal charges related to the Brett Favre welfare fraud scandal. Now, it has been noted that Favre reportedly received $1 million in federal welfare money for talks he never gave.

The money given to Favre was intended to help some of the poorest people in the nation, and text messages surfaced between Favre and the Mississippi Community Education Center’s executive director Nancy New in relation to the funds. In 2017, Favre reportedly texted New, saying, “If you were to pay me, is there anyway the media can find out where it came from and how much?”

In May 2022, Favre was named in a suit along with three former pro wrestlers and several businesses. The civil lawsuit was brought forth by Mississippi DHS to recover millions of dollars in misspent welfare money. DHS claims the defendants spent over $20 million from the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families anti-poverty program.

As of now, ESPN Milwaukee has sidelined Brett Favre from his weekly radio appearances amid the current welfare scandal. Stay tuned for more updates.
