Last Sunday, a 17-year-old Bronx native named Jordany Aracena was gunned down by a group of assailants decked out in ski masks. The fatal incident took place on Sunday, around 6:15 pm, near 320 Beekman Avenue in the Mott Haven neighborhood of the Bronx, an area heavily influenced by gang activity. Since then, rumors have surfaced that the shooting was related to Aracena's rap lyrics and the notion that the "name-dropped" some of his rivals in the music, although his family members have denied those reports.
Surveillance footage captured the gang of perpetrators awaiting Aracena's arrival while sitting atop an electrical box about one block away from his home. They opened fire on Aracena when he was in the middle of the street before fleeing the murder scene and heading toward Oak Terrace. Shortly after the shooting, Aracena was rushed to Lincoln Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. No arrests have been made in this case, but the investigation is ongoing.
