There has been a discussion about DaBaby being blackballed in the industry after his latest album, Baby on Baby 2, is being projected to only sell 16,000 units in the first week.
DJ Akademiks went viral after tweeting, "Da Baby’s last project in 2020, Blame it on Baby, sold 124K first week. His new project after being blackballed by Ebro, Apple Music is scheduled to do less than 20K. Now yall understand my Ebro convo… DSPs control who is hot and who is not. Fall out of favor with them… UR DONE."
Ebro responded to Akademiks, denying that he blackballed DaBaby, and he pointed out that DaBaby performed at Hot 97's Summer Jam in 2021.
From there, Meek Mill weighed in on the conversation, tweeting, "They blatantly black balling da baby .. not my business but ima observer."
Boosie, who has collaborated with DaBaby on "Period" and Kevin Gates' "Hold Your Head," also feels like something is going on with DaBaby. Boosie tweeted, "Ain’t no way my n***a @DaBabyDaBaby supposed to sell 16k after selling almost 150k his last first week ‼️he one of the BIGGEST n this sh*t ‼️I DONT KNOW WHATS GOING ON BUT SOMETHING IS DEFINITELY GOING ON."
