Gavin Escobar, a former NFL tight end who played with the Cowboys, Dolphins, and Ravens was one of two people killed in a rock climbing accident in Southern California on Wednesday (September 28).

The 31-year-old former professional athlete was identified in the accident, along with 33-year-old Chelsea Walsh. The two were rock climbing near the Tahquitz Peak Fire Lookout in the San Bernardino National Forest.

Officials haven't released many details about the accident, but they reported that the two were climbing a rockface in the area. Two witnesses called 911 after seeing Escobar and Walsh in an accident, and emergency personnel arrived an hour after the call. They were both pronounced dead on the scene.

Following his NFL career, Escobar reportedly joined the Long Beach Fire Department earlier this year.
