Update 09/30/2022 3:18pm:

YNW Melly was recently accused of planning a jailbreak, with the Broward County Sheriff’s General Office making the claim while speaking to Complex. The General Office says the alleged information came from a “confidential source” who said the rapper’s attorney was involved in the plot. Now, the rapper’s mother took to Instagram and posted a video addressing allegations of her son plotting an escape attempt.

Melly’s mother said, “I’m at work, and I just seen this crazy a** story.” She continued saying the fake news is a tactic to push for her son not to have attorney visits in person. His lack of attorney visits would cause ineffective council.

From there, Melly’s mother said there is no evidence that his attorneys did anything wrong and that the false information is being pushed ahead of a jury being selected in the next two weeks to tarnish the rapper’s character. Watch above.

According to reports, YNW Melly is being accused of planning a jailbreak. Broward County Sheriff’s General Counsel’s Office spoke with Complex on Thursday, providing context to the allegations against Melly.

“On April 11, 2022, Broward Sheriff’s Office received a confidential tip regarding inmates Nicholas Lewis and Jamell Demons, both housed in the same unit at the Main Jail, planning an escape from jail by having Demons’ attorney bring in two handcuff keys to aid in the escape. Additional information provided by the source was that Lewis had a shank and drugs,” the statement noted.

“The confidential source gave us two pieces of information. One of them [about the shank and drugs] turned out to be a hundred percent true,” said Christian Tsoubanos, Assistant General Counsel for the Broward Sheriff’s Office, during Tuesday's hearing. “And when they did the search of Demons’ cell, they did not find the handcuff key, but it could have been that there was not an opportunity to bring it into the facility yet."

The rapper has also faced discipline for other jail infractions that resulted in the revocation of phone privileges and is also accused of providing people with login information to have "non-record visitation" calls with him.
