About three years ago, DaBaby was arguably the biggest rapper in the world. His first three albums (Baby on Baby, Kirk, and Blame it on Baby) all went platinum in the United States, producing hit songs like "Suge," "Bop," and "Rockstar." However, upon the release of his fourth studio album, "Baby on Baby 2," the new music was met with a wave of criticism from fans and journalists alike. Thus far, the most noticeable aspect of the highly anticipated LP release are the declining album sales. "Baby 2 Baby 2" sold just 16,000 albums in its first week, which is a significant drop off from the 123,000 units that his last album garnered from first week sales. This has prompted fellow hip-hop heavyweights like Boosie and Meek Mill to state their belief that the North Carolina native has been "blackballed." To that, an online hip-hop personality named BlackySpeakz has published a series of videos on YouTube that directly challenges that notion titled "People Got Bored of DaBaby" and "DaBaby's Album is Flopping." Both videos garnered over 15,611 views.
BlackySpeakz followed the videos with a tweet that read, "DaBaby is not blackballed. He just hasn’t evolved musically in the last three years. People got bored of him. That’s all."
The message has since gone viral, and it ignited several debates in his comment section, arguing for and against the theory that DaBaby is being blackballed by the music industry.
