Update 10/08/2022 4:04pm:

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis recently filed a motion to delay the trial for Young Thug, Gunna, and over 26 others as part of the YSL RICO case.

The delay reportedly stems from many of the suspects involved in the case not having attorneys. Willis’ motion says eight out of the 28 defendants do not have attorneys months after being indicted. Willis asked that the trial scheduled for January 9 be delayed until March 27 so the defendants have time to get an attorney.

Willis’ motion went on to say, “a continuance to the final week in March would protect the speedy trial rights of those who have asserted those rights while also ensuring that the additional eight defendants have properly prepared appointed counsel.”

Another part of the motion asked that the defendants be tried together since they all participated in the conspiracy. It was noted that similar evidence is expected to be used in each trial, according to the DA. A judge is set to look at the District Attorney’s motion later in October and decide.

During a press conference on Monday (August 29), Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis addressed the indictment of 26 suspected members of Drug Rich Gang, who are tied to a string of home burglaries of wealthy people in Atlanta. Willis tied the home invasions of Mariah Carey, Atlanta Falcons star Calvin Ridley and Future’s baby mother, Brittni Mealy to the gang.

While taking questions from the press, Willis was asked about criticism and claims that she's targeting the hip-hop community with RICO charges. Over the past couple of years, rappers including Hoodrich Pablo Juan, YFN Lucci, Young Thug, Gunna, and Yak Gotti have all been indicted on RICO charges, with none of them being granted bail.

Willis responded to the criticism, stating, "I think if you decide to admit your crimes over a beat, I’m gonna use it. You do not get to commit crimes in my county and then decide to brag on it, which you do that for a form of intimidation and to further the gang, and not be held responsible.

"Just one of the lyrics used in this indictment is: 'Me and my crew striking out, striking in all black/Send me the drop, we’ll kick in the house/If we steal a car, we’re gonna take off the tags.' Well, they're kicking in doors, committing home invasions and now I'm using those lyrics that they're admitting to doing that."
