Last June, the Golden State Warriors clinched the fourth NBA Championship in seven years with an emphatic road victory over the Boston Celtics. The Golden State Warriors have now won more NBA championships than another other franchise in the history of the league, outside of the Lakers and Celtics. The team's ability to draft and develop future cornerstones, such as Jordan Poole, Johnathan Kuminga, and Moses Moody, has all but ensured that their dynastic run will not be fading away anytime soon. Unless they fail to retain the impending free agents. Draymond Green and Jordan Poole are both due for a contract extension. The only problem is if the Warriors elect to pay them both, their luxury tax will skyrocket to $513 million. Soon, the Warriors may have a very difficult decision to make between keeping "the heart and soul of their team," Draymond Green, or locking up a budding star who hasn't even entered his prime, Jordan Poole.
Many believe that the tension surrounding this topic contributed to Draymond Green's highly publicized punch that reportedly knocked Jordan Poole out during practice. In the aftermath of the punch, several current and former athletes, such as Bobby Portis, Marcus Spears, and Emmanuel Acho, have condemned Draymond Green for hitting a teammate who is much younger and smaller than him. The Warriors have also come under fire for neglecting to punish the 2017 Defensive Player of the Year. But when it comes to this incident, no one has been safe from ridicule. Jordan Poole has also been heavily criticized for his role in the altercation, as many have cited his infamous proclivity for trash-talking as the main reason why Draymond hit him in the first place. That narrative has gained more stem as of late. Therefore, Jordan Poole has become the subject of various memes online. One, in particular, has gone viral. The image depicts an NBA2K version of Poole's face, with a black eye, making light of the KO heard around the world.
