Draymond Green was back in the lineup on Friday for the Golden State Warriors final preseason game before Tuesday's season opener. Green had been away from the team for five days following the leaked footage of his altercation with teammate Jordan Poole at practice. While addressing the media ahead of Friday's game, Green gave candid responses regarding his immediate and distant future plans in Golden State.
When asked about the general view he has of his future with Golden State, Green said “My general view of my future here is I’m here this year trying to win a championship,” adding, “I have a contract that ranges through next year if I so choose to pick up that option.”
However, he made it clear that he's not intending to sign an extension and instead possibly looking for a more lucrative, fully restructured contract. “I spoke on that at the very beginning. I said I don’t think we’re doing an extension,” he continued. “Quite frankly, that doesn’t mean that I won’t be back here. I just don’t think we’re doing an extension this year."
“And so I said that at the beginning of camp,” Green said. “That’s not something I’m going to talk about all year. We got a championship to win. … I don’t like to let contract drama linger, especially when it’s involving me.”
