Noah Williams, the Jacksonville rapper known as Spinabenz, got good news on Thursday (October 20), as he was found not guilty on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon following a four-day trial.
Spinabenz was facing up to 15 years on the charge, which could've been doubled in separate sentencing if it was proven that he had gang ties. He is facing additional charges for allegedly removing his ankle monitor while on house arrest, with pre-trial hearings beginning this month.
During his trial, prosecutors played songs by Spinabenz, including "My Glock," where he raps, "My Glock cost $300/ Oh she 18? Give that b**** $300 too." They accused Spinabenz's girlfriend of buying the gun for him, as he is a convicted felon and not able to own a firearm.
Spinabenz's attorney, David Bigney, argued against the use of the lyrics, as he stated, "(Bob) Marley wrote about plenty of things that actually happened, but he also wrote a song, 'I Shot The Sheriff'," and this guy is telling you that Bob Marley now shot the sheriff."
Bigney also argued that the DNA evidence on the gun could have come from Williams touching his girlfriend. He closed by stating, "Here's the big one. There were no eyewitnesses. Nobody places the firearm in Noah Williams' hands. Nobody."
