Latto shared the headline along with the message, "POV: u don’t even have a song sampling lollipop." Latto previously worked with Wayne on "Sunshine," a song on her 777 album, which also featured Childish Gambino.
Before she addressed the rumors, many people that believed the tweet brought up Latto's recent back-and-forth with Wayne's protégé, Nicki Minaj. The two women traded shots after Nicki called out the Grammy committee moving her "Super Freaky Girl" single to the Pop category, while Latto's "Big Energy" remained in the rap song category. Latto called out Nicki for making tweets she felt were subliminally shading her, which led to an all-out back-and-forth between the two women.
