In this clip, Iman Shumpert reflects back on the rise of Chief Keef and Drill music. When DJ Vlad indicates that Drill music has inspired sub-genres such as Brooklyn Drill and UK Drill, Iman corrects him and states that Chicago Drill is the only true type of Drill that there really is because it came first. This sparks a discussion about the history of hip-hop in Chicago and how the nature of the music evolved from Common and Kanye West to rappers such as King Von.

Moving along, Iman Shumpert talks about why he doesn’t see much change in Chicago as a native of the city. He broke down why the music isn’t necessarily making the city more violent, but it’s only mainstreamed the level of violence that was already present. He said that although the violence from the music spills over into the streets, it’s largely used as a survival tactic for many Chicago street dudes turned rappers.
