Halloween weekend is finally upon us, and despite the best efforts from the families of Jeffrey Dahmer's victims not to glorify the cannibalistic serial killer with costumes, it appears as though the dreaded phenomenon is well underway. The "dressing up like Dahmer" craze began to make headway after the first week of October, shortly after the release of Dahmer-Moster: The Jeffery Dahmer Story on Netflix. The hit series has inspired a litany of sartorialists, and retail companies such as eBay have vowed to combat outfitters that wish to feed into the disturbing trend. In response, a growing number of parents had made Jeffrey Dahmer costumes for their kids from scratch. Photos of kids decked out in full-on Jeffery Dahmer attire for Halloween have caused a bit of a stir on Twitter.
"In no way shape or form was dahmer a lighthearted series for y’all to still be making jokes and dressing your kids up as a real serial killer who killed, mutilated, raped, & ATE his victims. y’all are truly sick in the head," a Twitter user wrote.
"Them ppl who are dressing their little ass kids as Dahmer need to be evaluated fr. They forcing their kids to dress up as a serial killer when they know them kids wanna be spider man like wtf," added another commentator.
Even celebrities such as Ice-T and Ziwe chimed in on the matter to condemn those who don't seem to have a problem glorifying a man who killed 17 people from 1979 to 1991.
"I wouldn't be surprised if someone dressed up as DAHMER this Halloween..... And got their a** beat. Just saying," Ice-T wrote.
"Jeffrey dahmer is not a halloween costume i miss the glory days of dressing kids up as cute little pumpkins," added Ziwe.
