During the Obama Administration, the world was introduced to Obama's love for the former first lady, Michelle, and their two daughters, a light that they had never seen from this family before. Obama's Presidential term also made it abundantly clear that he was unapologetically in love with the game of basketball. During Barack Obama's tenure, he awarded NBA icons Michael Jordan, Bill Russell, and Kareem Abdul Jabbar with the 'Presidential Medal of Freedom." He sanctioned pick-up basketball games at his personal court in the White House with the likes of NBA hall-of-famers such as Magic Johnson. And every year, right before the NCAA men's basketball tournament was set to begin, Obama would make an appearance on ESPN just to fill out a bracket for Sportscenter's viewers. Now that he's no longer legally bound to his political responsibilities as POTUS, it appears as if the 44th President of the United States is gearing up to make a run at owning an NBA franchise.

According to reports, the Phoenix Sun's (and Phoenix Mercury) owner, Robert Sarver, has already begun the process of selling his team. The reason for the upcoming sale is the string of highly publicized racist and misogyny allegations that Sarver has been accused of. The dilemma for Sarver has created an opportunity for a number of business groups to prepare their bids to buy his franchise. Obama is reportedly a part of one of those groups. If his business group is successful with their bid, the move would make him the second Black owner in NBA history, behind Charlotte Hornet's owner Michael Jordan.
