Zaya Wade came out as "Straight trans" two years ago at the age of twelve. When the news broke, a societal line in the sand was drawn between those who supported her parent's choice to allow Zaya to "transition" and those who did not. The divide didn't just apply to the public.
Zaya's father, former NBA champion Dwyane Wade and her step-mother Gabrielle Union have embraced Zaya's gender identity, but Zaya's birth mother, Siovaughn Funches-Wade, has refuted their viewpoint and maintains that her child is still a biological male named Zion. Dwyane Wade's ex-wife recently filed a petition in Los Angeles County to his attempt to block Zaya's new name and gender change from being legally recognized, claiming that her former husband pressured Zaya into the gender change for financial gain (Zaya just signed a deal with Disney). Candace Owens recently echoed that sentiment with a tweet that condemned Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union regarding the handling of Zaya's transition.
"Good morning," Candace wrote. "Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union are child abusers. Pretending to love your children while encouraging them to mutilate their bodies via irreversible therapies and cosmetic procedures should warrant prison time. Everybody have a good day."
