The NBA may have moved on from back-to-the-basket centers who don't shoot threes, such as Dwight Howard, but in the country of Taiwan, there is still a demand for former superstars with that skill set. Up until last week, the most noteworthy ex-NBA players to join the professional basketball leagues in Taiwan (such as T1 League or P.LEAUGE) were Anthony Bennett and O.J. Mayo. That all changed when the three-time Defensive Player of the Year arrived at the Taoyuan International Aiport to join his new team, the Taoyuan Leopards.
As soon as the 6'11 front-court player touched down, he was treated like a rockstar, with flashing cameras and loud cheers. Many of the fans were singing songs while others eagerly approached him for autographs. According to reports, all 60,000 tickets available for Dwight Howard's first four games with the Leopards sold out in less than ten minutes. His contract with the team stipulates that he will be paid $1 million annually. The 36-year-old will play his first game with his new teammates on November 19th.
