A Mississippi man has been sentenced to prison after faking his death to avoid sexual abuse charges related to him impregnating a teen.
Jacob Blair Scott was handed down a 21-month sentence to run concurrently with his 85-year sentence for sexual battery charges for the 2018 rape of a 14-year-old girl whom was subsequently impregnated during the course of the attack. Scott’s accuser testified about him sexually assaulting her at least 30 times over several months beginning in 2016 and ending in 2017 when she learned she was pregnant.
Scott reportedly rowed a boat into the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Orange Beach, Alabama. Investigators said he left a gun and a suicide note. The Coast Guard searched for a body for more than a week. In August, he pleaded guilty to federal charges of sending a false distress call that led to a Coast Guard search, illegally shipping weapons across state lines and giving false information.
