According to reports, an NMSU student named Mike Peake was suspended indefinitely after he shot another student for trying to jump him with two other people. Now, details in the situation have come out, noting a 17-year-old female student admitted to setting up Peake, which led to the tragic shootout.

17-year-old Mya Hill, a UNM student, is being charged in the situation and footage surfaced from Hill speaking to police. “It kind of sucks because I feel like I would've never called Michael here last night. Brandon would still be alive and you wouldn't have this problem,” said Hill. The student says she saw Peake at a UNM and NMSU game in October 2022, saying, “So ever since then, we've been talking back and forth and we just like when he got down here, he said, of course, he wanted to have sex. Yeah, that's what we're going to do.” Hill claims she was pressured by a friend named Brandon Travis as retaliation for a fight that went down weeks before at the NMSU and UNM football game. She claims she wasn’t aware who jumped Peake at first on the night she got the basketball player to come to campus.

Hill continued saying “All I saw was Brandon. Walk up to him with a gun pointed in his face and Michael did this. That's the last thing I seen when I ran. OK. Because I seen the gun. I didn't know that there was a gun involved. OK. That's why I ran. I thought they were jumping him because, like I said, I heard the noise. So that's why I had, like, stayed there for a second. I didn't know they were gunshots.”

Hill is currently facing aggravated battery and conspiracy charges.
