On Tuesday, the Mexican Army, a branch of the Mexican Armed forces, arrested the older brother of the most wanted man in their country. According to the Mexican Defense Department, Antonio Oseguera, also known as "El Tony Montana," was apprehended on weapons possession charges and for his pivotal role in the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The 64-year-old drug lord orchestrated hits, laundered money, and more for a criminal organization that was started by his brother, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes (El Mencho), back in 2012.
“The arrest of Antonio [Oseguera Cervantes] represents a forceful blow to one of the criminal organizations in the country, since it is considered in its structure, as one of the alleged main logistical and financial operators and generators of violence,” said the Mexican authorities in an official statement.
The arrest occurred in a suburb of Guadalajara, and it is considered a significant step toward bringing down El Mencho. As of now, it is not known whether or not the United States will try to expedite Antonio Oseguera. The United States Drug Enforcement Administration has a $10 million bounty out for El Mencho.
