Twelve years ago, a fresh-faced Chicago native named Derrick Rose led his hometown Bulls to the best record in the NBA. He was the only All-Star on a roster managed by an unknown, first-year head coach named Tom Thibodeau. In a league that was supposed to have been dominated by LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Bosh, and the Miami Heat or the defending Champions at the time (the Los Angeles Lakers), the surprise Bulls bested them all during the regular season, after which Derrick Rose was named the youngest MVP in league history--ending Lebron's two-year reign. The very next season, D-Rose tore his ACL. In the years that followed, a litany of major injuries would rob him of his superior athleticism and render him a role player on the bench of various NBA teams such as the Cleveland Cavaliers, Minnesota Timberwolves, Detroit Pistons, and New York Knicks.
Although he's in good health today, Derrick Rose is currently out of the New York Knicks rotation. Thus, he's mainly a mentor for younger players on the roster, a beloved Chicago legend, and a family man with a son who's working his way up the youth basketball circuit.
On the night of Christmas Eve, video footage surfaced of the former MVP spending time with his son, PJ, along with his wife (Alaina Anderson) and PJ's mother (Mieka Reese). The two women in his life clearly get along with each other as their children are siblings. In the video, they could be seen sporting a matching pajama set Derrick Rose gifted them for Christmas.
