Many rappers have spoken about their interactions with police, with some rappers and artists noting they only got worse upon gaining notoriety and fame. In a new interview with The Guardian, Public Enemy frontman Chuck D spoke on why he believes Public Enemy was harassed by cops “more than anybody in music.”

A portion of the interview with The Guadian found Chuck being asked by fans about the amount of FBI intimidation and police harassment the group received in their prime. Chuck D responded, “I don’t know about intimidation, but, yeah, probably more than anybody in music.”

The rapper continued saying, “It’s nothing to be annoyed by. It’s what it is. The most I could do was to make songs about it. On Public Enemy’s first album, Yo! Bum Rush the Show, we said the governments are responsible. Governments plural because governments like to split up human beings, but music likes to unite people.” Via Instagram, Chuck D also revealed he would be a part of a series on BBC called ‘Fight The Power,’ which focuses on how hip-hop changed the world.
