Just hours after the parade to celebrate the University of Georgia’s national championship victory, offensive lineman Devin Willock and staff member Chandler LeCroy were killed in an early morning car crash on Sunday in Athens, Georgia.
Shortly before 3 am on Sunday, LeCroy, 24, was driving with Willock, 20, Georgia offensive lineman Warren McClendon, 21, and Victoria Bowles, 26. The Athens-Clarke County Police Department revealed in a press release that the vehicle went off the road, and crashed into two power poles and several trees.
Willock died on the scene, and LeCroy, a football recruiting analyst for UGA, died after being taken to a hospital. McClendon and Bowles survived but reportedly have serious injuries. A witness took photos at the scene, showing a wooden power pole broken in half and the car’s crushed frame lying against an apartment building.
Head football coach Kirby Smart released a statement on Sunday, "Devin was an outstanding young man in every way. He was always smiling, was a great teammate and a joy to coach. Chandler was a valuable member of our football staff and brought an incredible attitude and energy every single day."
