During his professional boxing career, Oscar De La Hoya's impressive record featured bouts against some of the biggest names in the sport, from Julio César Chávez and Shane Mosley to Felix Trinidad and Benard Hopkins, and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Now it appears the boxer turned boxing promoter is in the process of orchestrating a highly anticipated super fight between Gervonta "Tank" Davis (ranked the #1 lightweight boxer in the world) and Ryan Garcia (ranked the #2 lightweight boxer in the world). On Sunday night, the CEO/Owner of Golden Boy Productions tweeted that if his client, Ryan Garcia, didn't have a contract from Al Haymon's company, PBC (Premier Boxing Champions), sometime during the following day, they would take their business elsewhere.
"I have no contract, deadline for me is Monday or I’m moving on. #DavisGarcia"
On Tuesday, TMZ caught up with De La Hoya, regarding the topic at hand and his tweet. The former lightweight champion responded by providing an update on the progress of the contract negotiations.
"Nobody is backing out," De La Hoya stated. "The contract is coming. I'll tell you one thing: Ryan Garcia wants to knock him out so bad. He's calling it in two rounds. I actually believe it, but then again, I think about Tank Davis, who is a beast. He is an animal. He's a great fighter. "Both guys are in their prime. Both guys are undefeated. It's gonna be a great fight. And you know what, in two hours, we're gonna make it happen."
Shortly thereafter, De La Hoya took to Instagram and posted a picture of himself holding the contract with Ryan Gracia (23-0) standing by his side.
"Devil is in the details. April 15th let's go!!"
The bout versus Tank Davis (28-0) will occur in Las Vegas at a catchweight of 136 lbs for the WBA lightweight championship.
