Azealia Banks recently returned to the major label world, and the rapper and vocalist sat down to discuss a new single along with various topics, including Kanye West. The rapper held no punches for the polarizing producer and rapper she once collaborated with.
During her interview, Banks brought up West and referred to him as a “grifter” before commenting on remarks he made in 2020 during his presidential campaign about he almost decided on aborting his oldest daughter North West. Banks said, “Just because you can’t get attention from Kim Kardashian, you turn it on your f**king daughter. Kanye, you’re an abusive a**hole, and you’re a p***y for picking on that little-a** girl. You are the last person we need to hear from about Black fatherhood and the Black family unit.”
From there, Banks spoke on how she saw flashes of West’s antics while working with him over a decade ago, noting she thinks he hates all women. The rapper said, “there was a culture in hip-hop that dark-skinned women were ugly. To meet him and hear him talk s**t about Kim Kardashian, it gave me a little bit of glee because you’re young, and you’re dumb, and you don’t get it yet.”
Banks continued saying, “When you’re getting all this messaging from hip-hop that you are exactly the type of Black woman that it doesn’t want, and then you meet someone that you like, because the music is so good, and he’s like: ‘I hate this white b***h’ – you’re like: ‘Yesss!’ As time goes on, it’s like: ‘Wait, you hated my Black a**, too! You hate all women!’”
When concluding her thoughts on West, Banks said, “You deserve to reap what you sow. In the future, when you’re walking down Times Square and you see Kanye West drinking flat Sprite out of a McDonald’s cup out of the garbage can, you can bring it all back to this moment.”
