About two weeks ago, Lionsgate announced that famed filmmaker Antoine Fuqua would be leading the charge in the upcoming biopic about "The King of Pop," along with the producer of the project, Graham King. On Monday, Deadline revealed that the film's lead role would be portrayed by Michael Jackson's nephew, a recording artist/actor named Jaafar Jackson (26). Jaafar's biggest hit thus far is a song he released three years ago called "Got Me Singing."  He is one of Jermaine Jackson's seven children and perhaps the most well-known recording artist to descend from any member of The Jacksons since 3T (a pop group consisting of Tito Jackson's three sons) enjoyed chart-topping success in the mid-90s. Moments before the announcement by Deadline, Jaafar took to Twitter to share the news with an emotional post about MJ.

”I’m humbled and honored to bring my Uncle Michael’s story to life," Jaafar wrote. "To all the fans all over the world, I’ll see you soon.”

The Jackson family and MJ's estate have been heavily involved in the pre-production phase of the film that has been titled Michael. Katherine Jackson recently shared her thoughts on the affirmation of her grandson playing her son in the upcoming motion picture.

“Jaafar embodies my son," Katherine said. "It’s so wonderful to see him carry on the Jackson legacy of entertainers and performers.”

Filming for Michael is slated to get underway later this year. The co-stars and remaining members of the main cast have yet to have been announced.
