Update 02/05/2023 4:22pm:

Previously, the names of the officers involved in the death of Tyre Nichols were named, with the officers being fired from the Memphis police and charged with the murder of the 29-year-old. Now, it has been reported that Omega Psi Phi has revoked the membership of three of the officers involved in the tragic incident.

The national Black college fraternity—Omega Psi Phi, issued a statement, saying, “We strongly condemn the conduct of the former Memphis police officers involved in the incident, including the three former members of our organization. The brutality shown in the video not only violated our moral sensibilities but also transgressed our fraternal and established code of conduct.” Former officers Emmitt Martin III, Desmond Mills Jr., and Tadarrius Bean were removed from the organization, with their names now being included on the fraternity’s “expelled persons” list.

The statement from the fraternity via the chief executive of the organization—Ricky Lewis, found him previously saying, “We expect law enforcement officers to protect life and serve our communities with the highest regard for safety and humanity. Unfortunately, what we witnessed of the violent behavior of the accused (now former) officers is the complete opposite.” Stay tuned for more updates.
