Previously, it was reported that charges against R. Kelly in his Illinois case were dropped because of “extensive sentences” in his federal cases. Despite the case being dropped, a lawyer for Kelly said, “There is no real sense of relief. He is still fighting for his life.” Now, the singer's legal team has asked for a shorter sentence for his Chicago trial, claiming he was unfairly targeted.

Kelly’s lawyer Jennifer Bonjean asked for the singer’s sentence to be shortened to 11 years and asked U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber if he could serve out his sentence during the 30-year sentence he was issued.

According to the Chicago Tribune, Kelly’s attorneys used Elvis Presley’s relationship with Priscilla Presley, who he started dating when she was 14. Bonjean also pointed out others like David Bowie, who she says faced accusations mirroring Kelly’s, with no legal action taken against them.
