Former NFL player Stanley Wilson Jr., who played cornerback for the Detroit Lions, has passed away at just 40. He was also the son of former Bengals running back Stanley Wilson Sr.
According to TMZ, Wilson collapsed at a mental hospital earlier this month after he was declared incompetent to stand trial for a vandalism charge. He was transferred to Metropolitan State Hospital in Los Angeles County on February 1, and during the intake process, Wilson collapsed and died. His cause of death is still pending an autopsy, but no foul play is suspected.
During his NFL career, Wilson was picked by the Lions in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft, where he stayed for three seasons until suffering a career-ending Achilles injury. Following his football career, Wilson was arrested several times, including being charged with attempted burglary in 2016. During that incident, Wilson was shot in the abdomen while attempting to break into a house in Portland while completely nude.
Wilson was arrested twice in 2017 in Portland. Once for walking around nude and for an attempted break-in on a separate occasion. His latest arrest came in August when he allegedly broke in and ransacked a Los Angeles and took a bath in an outside fountain.
