Previously, WNBA star Brittney Griner was released from a Russian jail in a prisoner swap after she served ten months

In exchange for Griner, Russia received Viktor Bout, an arms dealer and high-value prisoner. The exchange and release of Griner didn’t stop her from saying she would make a return to basketball, and now it appears her move toward the sport has begun.

Griner, who was a free agent, signed a one-year deal with the Phoenix Mercury. The news was revealed by an anonymous source to the Associated Press, who noted the announcement wasn’t made at the time of their revelation. The 6’9” WNBA star previously played for the Mercury during the 2021 season and was able to help the team get to the WNBA finals. Stay tuned for more updates.
