According to reports, on the night of January 28th, Irene Torres (24) returned to her parent's home in Nashville after getting off work, only to be stabbed 17 times by her ex-boyfriend, Dwayne Herrelle Jr. (28). What happened next sent shockwaves throughout the community. After the fatal stabbing, the suspect allegedly dumped the victim's body into the trunk of his car before disposing of her bloody pants and purse in a nearby trash bin. From there, Herelle Jr. relocated Irene's body to his apartment closet in Bellevue, Tennessee. Shortly after the tragic incident, Irene's parents watched home security footage of their daughter's body being dragged away from the scene. When the video of the gory slaying was displayed during Herrelle Jr's sentencing in front of a group of attendees, many walked screaming with tears in their eyes. Derry Baltimore, the Metro Nashville Police Department Detective who arrived at the murder scene, was among the onlookers during the hearing.
“They got into an argument and he begins stabbing her and after stabbing her he put her in the trunk of his car,” Baltimore told WKRN. “I was told while I was standing there with the doctor that she was stabbed in excess of 17 times...“[When] we went to the closet area, and I could see the victim inside of a clear tote like she was wrapped in some type of comforter,” Baltimore said.
Irene's sister, Reyna Douglas, has since started a GoFundMe in regards to the incident. The online campaign was accompanied by an emotional message about her late sibling.
"While most 24-year-olds are planning their careers and futures and are optimistic about the world, Irene spent some of the last months of her young life abused, degraded, terrorized, and fearful," Douglas stated. "Irene showed immense bravery in leaving her abusive relationship and was so happy to start her new life with the support of her family, only to be hunted down in her front yard and brutally murdered one month later."
Before turning pro, Herrelle Jr. was 5-0 as an MMA fighter for the Justified Defiance Fight Series in Ohio. He was charged with criminal homicide at his hearing. Herelle Jr. could face anywhere between 15-60 years in prison.
