The 2023 NBA All-Star Game went down this past weekend and found many fans and spectators commenting on the lack of excitement from players participating. The East vs. West setup found LeBron James leading the West while Giannis Antetokounmpo led the East. The game had a score target of 182 that each team was gunning to reach, but the game seemingly fizzled out toward the fourth quarter.

Following the game, NBA All-Star and NBAPA VP Jaylen Brown talked about differences between the All-Star Game and “real basketball.” Brown, who played on Team LeBron, was asked about his facemask during the game, saying he had no worries about his face because of the level of intensity. “Real basketball is different. This was like a layup line. It was just a glorified layup line. We got to figure out how to make the game a little bit more competitive,” said Brown.

It was noted that Denver Nuggets head coach Michael Malone spoke about the All-Star game, with comments mirroring Brown’s thoughts. Malone was the coach for Team LeBron and told the press, “It’s an honor to be here, it’s an honor to be a part of a great weekend, great players, but that is the worst basketball game ever played.”
