According to reports, over 150 suspects were apprehended in connection with a drug bust in the Valley that targeted the two rival criminal organizations responsible for almost all of the narcotics in Arizona, the Sinaloa Drug Cartel and the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). The multi-agency raid yielded a long list of drugs and illegal weapons, including over 4.5 million fentanyl pills, over 140 pounds of fentanyl powder, over 135 kilograms of cocaine, over 3,000 pounds of methamphetamine, 35 kilos of heroin, 49 firearms, and over $2 million in cash. Arizona officials held a press conference at the Tempe Police station on Thursday to display their findings and make the announcement.
“I want to be crystal clear: The drugs in this room and the drugs that are flooding Arizona every single day are sourced primarily by one evil entity, the Sinaloa drug cartel,” said Cheri Oz, the DEA special agent in charge. “We are laser-focused on the Sinaloa drug cartel, and we will defeat them...I hope when you look around this room, you’re terrified. Because in 27 years of law enforcement, I’ve never seen a drug as dangerous and deadly as fentanyl.”
In 2022, the DEA in Arizona seized over $22 worth of fentanyl pills. For more on Arizona's war on drugs, stay tuned.
