Update 02/25/2023 3:09pm:

Previously, NBA G-League player-turned-Philadelphia 76er Mac McClung won the 2023 NBA Slam Dunk contest. Shortly after, it was revealed that McClung is the cousin of rapper Riff Raff. Riff Raff has spoken on the connection, along with the teams that fumbled the chance to have his cousin rock with their squad.

While speaking to TMZ, Riff Raff talked about the spotlight that has been put on his cousin recently and said Mac is “getting the notoriety he deserves.” The rapper then focused on the teams that lost out on his cousin’s skills. “He's been on the Warriors, they fumbled. He's been on the Lakers with some of his favorite players, and he's playing with them, and they fumbled that, and now he's over there in Philly,” said Riff Raff. From there, Riff Raff proclaimed about his cousin, saying, “He’s the new Ivory Iverson!!!”

The rapper spoke about the lack of teams trying to secure his cousin, saying, “Any NBA team owner would be foolish to not wanna fill the stands and get hat hype around their team. To me, and to anybody who actually watches him play, he's a starter.” Take a look above.

During the apex of Riff Raff's career in the entertainment industry, he dropped a bevy of freestyle raps and social media posts based on the somewhat whimsical claim that he could have played ball for a litany of professional sports teams such as Las Vegas Raiders, Washington Commanders, Dallas Mavericks, Charlotte Hornets, Washington Wizards and more. But, through the midst of the puns, maybe Riff Raff was on to something. It appears that athleticism runs deep in his blood. He's related to Seth McClung, a former pitcher with the Milwaukee Brewers and current NBA slam dunk Champion Mac McClung. Footage of Riff Raff playing basketball indicates that his skills as a three-point shooter are nothing to scoff at, but they pale in comparison to the leaping ability of his baby cousin, Mac. Upon winning the Slam Dunk Contest during NBA All-Star weekend, the former G-League player (and current Philadelphia 76er) gained over 100K followers on Instagram, making him a household name over the weekend. The name Mac McClung might be new to the mainstream, but Riff Raff has been boasting about his cousin's potential for years. Back in 2021, the rapper compared Mac to Dwyane Wade during an interview with TMZ.

The 6'3 Mac McClung notched a perfect score with a 720 dunk en route to securing a win in Saturday night's highly anticipated competition. Afterward, the little-known tidbit about the bloodline between him and Riff Raff went viral.
