Recently, another update was made on the murder trial of Jam Master Jay of Run-DMC. Court documents that surfaced noted that a key witness named Lydia High was accused of being “unreliable,” a claim made by the lawyers for suspect Ronald Washington.
A letter was sent to Judge LaShann Hall, with the office of Washington's lawyer calling out “impairing factors” that included “weapon focus; high stress triggered by aggressive behavior; a long delay between the event and the identification; and co-witness feedback.”
It was noted that High was present at the studio the night Jam Master Jay was murdered. High initially said she saw two Black men enter the room with weapons. One man stayed near the doorway while the other, who had on a mask told High to get on the ground. The masked man allegedly shot Jay, fired off another round then “led out of the doorway with the other man.”
Washington’s lawyer Ezra Spilke is saying High’s story isn’t reliable because she called out the wrong person. The document said, “According to Ms. High, only the shooter was wearing a mask. Ms. High, who was interviewed by the police shortly after the shooting, failed to identify as a participant Mr. Washington, whom she later told the authorities she had known for ‘numerous years.’”
The doc continued, "Nine months after the shooting, Ms. High’s account changed in that she then knew the identity of one of the participants: Washington, whom she identified from a photo array. In identifying Washington, High told the police that he was the person who pointed a gun at her and told her to ‘get on the ground’ while the masked person shot Mizell.”
The legal team for Washington is reportedly planning to call Dr. Geofrey Loftus to testify in an attempt to point out flaws in the story of High. Loftus is a psychologist who has a background in eyewitness identification. Stay tuned for more updates.
