Part 1: Dr. Michael Baden on How He Became "Fascinated" with Dead Bodies
--------
In this clip, Shawn Prez started off by asking Dr. Baden about the O.J. Simpson trial, in which he testified, including if he thinks the jurors got it wrong in the criminal trial. Dr. Baden explained that the jurors loved Johnnie Cochran, and he thinks the jurors based their decision on the witnesses and attorneys. From there, Shawn asked Dr. Baden about the rumors that there was more than one assailant. Dr. Baden stated that it can’t be determined from examining knife wounds. When it comes to the O.J. trial, Dr. Baden stated that the stab wounds could’ve come from the same weapon, and he went on to speak about the role of a medical examiner. When asked if his affiliation with the trial affected his work after it was over, Dr. Baden said there were a lot of state police officers who were mad at him.
Moving along, Shawn Prez asked Dr. Baden about testifying in the trial of famous producer Phil Spector, and Dr. Baden explained that he was called early on in the case by Spector’s lawyer. Dr. Baden says he was asked to review the cause of death of Lana Clarkson to see if the gunshot wound was self-inflicted or not. Dr. Baden explained that from an autopsy point-of-view, gunshot wounds of the mouth are usually self-inflicted, and he pointed out that there was a fracture on Clarkson’s thumbnail. Dr. Baden stated that his findings were consistent with self-inflicted gunshot wounds, and Shawn pointed out that Spector was found guilty and sent to prison, where he died. Dr. Baden went on to speak about the 40 witnesses that testified in the case, which he said could’ve swayed jurors more than his testimony.
