Part 1: Dr. Michael Baden on How He Became "Fascinated" with Dead Bodies

In this clip, Shawn Prez started off speaking to Dr. Michael Baden about being brought into the George Floyd case via his good friend, Ben Crump, and Dr. Baden explained that he noticed that Floyd stopped moving 4 minutes into being pinned to the ground. Dr. Baden added that he thinks Floyd lost consciousness at this time, and he believes that a couple of minutes later, Floyd died. Dr. Baden then stated that when Floyd was put onto a stretcher, and he was in cardiac arrest before the ambulance arrived. This led to Shawn Prez bringing up Eric Garner and asking how long it takes for someone to die while in a chokehold. From there, Dr. Baden spoke about the various hold that police officers have been trained to use over the years, including a sleeper hold and carotid restraint.
Moving along, Shawn Prez asked Dr. Baden about writing his new book, “American Autopsy,” and Dr. Baden explained how his job has allowed him to help a lot of people solve mysteries with the way people have died. Speaking more about his book, Dr. Baden explained he wanted to shed more light on everything that he’s learned over his decades-long career. From there, Dr. Baden explained that after George Floyd’s death and the start of COVID, he believed that he should write a book about the mistruths when it comes to people dying in police custody. Dr. Baden then pointed to officers lying about what happened with Tyre Nichols, and he added that prosecutors have a bias toward police. This led to Dr. Baden speaking about the importance of investigating people who die during altercations with police, including having pole cameras.
