According to reports, former NBA All-Star Shawn Kemp has been released from jail and will not face any charges after being arrested in connection with a Tacoma-area shooting. Kemp's lawyer issued a statement outlining that the incident was never a drive-by shooting but an act of self-defense.
"Late Tuesday evening Shawn Kemp’s vehicle was broken into and numerous items were stolen, including an iPhone," W. Scott Boatman said in a statement. "On Thursday, Mr. Kemp tracked his iPhone to an occupied vehicle in a shopping mall parking lot in Tacoma. When Mr. Kemp approached the vehicle in an attempt to retrieve his stolen property, individuals inside the vehicle shot at Mr. Kemp, who then returned fire in self-defense. There was not a drive by shooting as previously reported and Mr. Kemp’ actions were reasonable and legally justified. Mr. Kemp met with law enforcement at the scene in an attempt to assist in the matter. Mr. Kemp has retained criminal attorneys Aaron Kiviat and Tim Leary to represent him and ensure that he is exonerated of all charges."

Video footage has surfaced of the moments leading up to former Seattle SuperSonics star Shawn Kemp being arrested for a felony drive-by shooting on Wednesday (March 8) afternoon.
TMZ obtained the footage from witnesses in the parking lot of a Tacoma, Washington, shopping mall around 2:00 pm. The video shows Kemp, dressed in a red vest, yelling before appearing to pull the trigger of a gun. Witnesses claim they heard multiple gunshots before filming the incident, and they claim that Kemp threw his gun in the bushes before attempting to leave the parking lot.
Shortly after getting in his vehicle and driving, police sirens could be heard. Kemp then appeared to flag down the officers to tell them to go after the other vehicle involved in the incident. The video also shows officers retrieving a gun from the bushes before Kemp was arrested and booked at the Pierce County Jail.
Sources close to Kemp spoke to FOX 13's David Rose, and they claim that Kemp had property stolen from his car on Tuesday, and he tracked his iPhone to Tacoma. After approaching the vehicle, the people inside shot at Kemp, who shot back in self-defense.
More information regarding the incident is expected to be released today.

According to reports, former Seattle SuperSonics star Shawn Kemp was arrested on Wednesday in connection to a drive-by shooting in Tacoma, Washington.
Authorities say Kemp was involved in an "altercation" between the people in two cars led to shots fired in a parking lot. When cops arrived at the scene, they found Kemp and recovered a gun.
No injuries were reported. Pierce County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Darren Moss Jr. told CNN the 53-year-old is in the Pierce County Jail.
