Part 1: Roland Martin on Growing Up in One of the First Communities for Black People in Texas

In this clip, Roland Martin started off by revealing that he has never drunk, and he went on to speak about pledging a fraternity and telling them that he wasn’t drinking. Roland then detailed how his other pledge brothers wouldn’t go against their values for the fraternity, and Roland stated, “That’s the brothers you want!” Roland then spoke about the need for “reprograming Black America,” and he pointed to Martin Luther King speaking about the four institutions that are prime places to liberate Black America, including the Black church, Black press, Black fraternities and sororities, and Black businesses and organizations.
Later, Roland Martin spoke about being married since 2001, and Shawn asked what it’s like to be married to Roland. This led to Roland speaking about being on a cruise and playing golf each day and one of the other men on the cruise asking how his wife “let” him play golf every day. Roland explained that he’s a “grown ass man” with a “grown ass woman,” and he went on to point out that his wife has no say-so in anything he wears.
