Last year, it was reported that an 82-year-old woman in Alabama named Martha Menefield was taken to jail ahead of Christmas for failure to pay off a $77 trash bill. Video footage from the arresting officers’ body cam showed that Menefield believed the situation was a joke before police actually cuffed the woman and took her to jail. The viral footage sparked much backlash and outrage, but rapper Trae Tha Truth put forth an effort to offer a correction for the elder.
Via Instagram, Trae revealed he spoke to Mrs. Menefield previously, who told him “how life was hard, but she was grateful.” The artist noted he asked her what she wanted or wished for, with the woman replying that she only wanted a recliner with a cup holder. However, the artist returned to Menefield’s home and offered a new recliner and an upgrade of numerous items in her home.
