Tech executive Bob Lee, the founder of Cash App and former chief technology officer of Square, was killed in a stabbing incident in San Francisco on Tuesday (April 4) morning.
According to NBC Bay Area, the victim was identified as Lee, which was later confirmed to Bloomberg and ABC7 News by MobileCoin, where Lee was serving as the chief product officer. Lee previously worked at Google, and he later joined Square, which later became Block. Lee became the company’s first CTO and also created Cash App.
Following the news of his death, Block CEO and Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey wrote on nostr, "It's real. Getting calls. Heartbreaking. Bob was instrumental to Square and Cash App. STL guy."
Joshua Goldbard, the CEO of MobileCoin, told ABC7 News, "Bob was a force of nature. Helped to birth Android and CashApp into our world. Moby was his dream: a privacy protecting wallet for the 21st Century. I will miss him every day."
So far, no arrests have been made.
