Marques Houston has been accused of some predatory behavior in the past so it wasn't a surprise to see eyebrows raised when news broke about his marriage to a 19-year-old when he was already 38.
During a recent interview with Uncensored, Houston spoke about his marriage to Miya and why it wasn't as inappropriate as some are making it out to be.
“People don’t understand it. And, of course, I got a lot of backlash for marrying someone that was 19,” said Houston. “And, you know, when we did finally start to talk, I was like, ‘This woman is like me.’” He went onto explain how his relationship with Miya differed from the connections he had with other women in the past. “For one, we had a spiritual connection, and I feel like that’s the most important thing.”
“And being able to start being around her,” he further said, “we connected through music and her spirit, her kindness, her heart. Reminds me a lot of my mom, and we connected on so many different levels.”
